Belcastel Bridge

Belcastel Bridge

Belcastel Bridge. Original: Graphite on Canson multimedia paper. 2022.

Belcastel Bridge, located in Belcastel, France, is a medieval stone bridge built in the 15th century. Spanning the Aveyron River, it features five arches and connects the village's charming stone houses and the historic Belcastel Castle. The bridge exemplifies medieval engineering and enhances the village's picturesque beauty. It was an eye opener for me that a bridge could be built in such a way that its arches, when reflected in the water, would form perfect circles.

The challenge for me in this piece was to depict that various textures and shades of the very diverse foliage while using only the black and white medium of graphite.
